EINMAL IST KEIN MAL

Einmal ist kein mal explores the cyclical nature of life and the tension between lightness and weight. This immersive installation, created with 3D models in Blender and dynamically controlled through a particle system in Ableton Live, integrates visuals and sound via MaxForLive and TouchDesigner.

The narrative follows a sphere representing the ovum, which dissolves into a baby, grows into an adolescent, transforms into a skull, and eventually into a Mandelbulb cube—an abstraction of infinity and the unknown beyond death. The cycle then reverses, returning to the sphere, mirroring the eternal return.

Inspired by Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being, which contrasts the existential lightness of Einmal ist kein mal with the necessity of Es muss sein from Beethoven’s quartet, this work is a visual meditation on the fragility of existence, the inevitability of death, and the recurring nature of life’s transformations.
